A FrameMaker Image Import Shortcut to Save You Precious Time

framemaker shortcut

Certain FrameMaker operations will start to become a major nuisance if you repeat them enough.
For example, imagine you’re working on a 500- or 1,000-page technical document with 500 illustrations that you need to import from a database.

The basic command is very straight forward:

File > Import > File… and then you browse, find your image, and click Import.
If you repeat this multi-click operation a few hundred times in a row you start to wonder: “Isn’t there an easier way to do this?”
Yes, there is. (NOTE: Reader feedback tells me this method does not work with FM7.)
Just press the following SHORTCUT HOT-KEYS:

Esc f i f

(Escape key, followed by “f” key, “i” key, “f” key)

This will display the IMPORT dialog box in which you can browse to your image and click the Import button.

Florian, thanks for the feedback. I’ve edited the title of that post to make it clear that this method works with FM9 but not FM7. Appreciate your valuable input. Ugur

Florian, I’m using FM9 and “Esc d i” does not work, but “Esc f i f” does. Thanks for the feedback though. Glad to hear you have a shortcut that works for you with FM7. Ugur
